LOL – Oakland Maker Space, 1234 23rd Avenue, Oakland CA
Oakland is Proud Block Party flyer from the Eastside Arts Alliance
In the wake of recent events in Ferguson, Missouri, local makerspace LOLspace has been searching anew for ways to address anti-black racism, police violence, and other injustices within our own communities and at large. We are excited to announce our upcoming wiki edit-a-thon to encourage people to explore and document their neighborhoods and share resources.
On Saturday, October 25, our neighborhood is hosting a block party celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Black & Chicano arts movements. For more info, check out the Eastside Arts Alliance website and Facebook page.
During the block party we are hosting an edit-a-thon on Oakland’s very own local wiki. Folks are invited to come down, learn more about wikis and editing, and even get involved in adding or editing information about their neighborhoods, stories, and concerns.
Feel free to come as you are, but if you’d like you can bring a laptop, and you can save time by setting up an account on Oakland Wiki in advance.
Here are some ideas we have been kicking around; but you are welcome to work on anything that interests you!
