Many people in our community are interested in meditation. Of course, the Radical F*n Sangha meets at LOL every other Tuesday, but we have also been visited by other meditation groups. We thought we combined that with the sewing workshop and get together and make zafus (meditation pillows)! Please RSVP for the event so we have an idea what the turnout will be like. If you’re not on Facebook, feel free to email us at oaklandmakerspace@gmail.com or leave a comment here.

Resilient Communities Legal Café 1st Thursdays of each month!

selc

Flyer for Resilient Communities Legal CaféWe are really excited to host the Sustainable Economies Law Center’s Resilient Communities Legal Café the first Thursday of every month! It’s a free legal clinic that takes place each week in various partsof East Bay (we are the East Oakland location) for people who are interested in (from flyer): “starting an urban farm, car sharing group, then trust, housing cooperative, worker cooperatives, or other enterprise that helps build your community”. It sounds really amazing, and people have already expressed an interest in dropping in. We look forward to this project, and think it’s a great fit given that one of LOL’s missions is to enable liberation through entrepreneurship and developing local economies.

There will be more information later, but for now we wanted to make available the PDFs of the flyers. There are two versions: one with images on the left and one with images on the right  (the pictures are also slightly different).

Please join us for our Anniversary/New Year’s party! Link is to Facebook, but the whole text of the invite is here:

Please join us on Sunday to welcome in the Year of the Snake! We are starting the festivities at 3 PM.

It’s our anniversary, and we want to celebrate together with you our community of makers and activists. We’ll remember great events from our first year and tell you about our news for 2013. Join our teachers, volunteers, board members and community members for an evening of fun and food. There is a rumor that Comrade Lover will make an appearance or two. We may even teach you to lion dance before the event is over.
